Based in McKees Rocks, BlackTeaBrownSuga is a force in giving a voice to the people through access to space, media, and technology for Black creatives. The BlackTeaBrownSuga Network (BTBSN) is empowering members of the community to challenge and correct injustices, whether they be social or judicial, community wide or personal. Overall, they seek to give members of the community the resources, knowledge, and confidence to be pro-active, change-makers.

BTBSN has a wide variety of shows that opens up space to talk about community concerns and issues, bring important injustices to light, or simply provide an outlet for creative self-expression. One of those shows is ‘Mom Chat,’ a talk show focused on the ups and downs of motherhood that helps connect community members to resources and shares advice from life experiences. Check out this Q&A with Mom Chat co-host Delmesha Richards!

Tell us a little about yourself and how you got involved with the BlackTeaBrown Suga Network

“Born and raised here in Pittsburgh, I left to attend an HBCU (SC State) and began my career in Washington, DC in IT and Project Management at the National Institutes of Health. A sis got saved, got married, started popping out them babies (3 boys with a baby girl on the way) and have been a proud Stay-at-Home-Mom since baby #1. Textbook extrovert, I’m energized by being around people, sincere believer and lover of Jesus Christ, very opinionated and I’m open like a book…speaking of books, I am a published author and somewhat of a serial entrepreneur. I travel wherever my interests and curiosities take me. I’m limitless.”

What show do you host on BTBSN and what topic did it cover that meant the most to you?

“Co-host of Mom Chat and we talked about all things motherhood! Now being a mother, a blessing and journey I wasn’t sure I would have the privilege of embarking on (it only manifested through faith that came as a result of praying and fasting), I absolutely love sharing my view and perspective on the topic. Particularly since I started motherhood much later in life, having my first son at 35years old.”

What inspires you most in life and what inspired you to share your stories on Mom Chat?

“My journey! My journey isn’t necessarily typical (in any aspect of life) so to be able to share and talk about the varied avenues I’ve taken, mistakes and failures, lessons learned as well a triumphs and accomplishments with other women, especially women who look like me, is very fulfilling. To have an impact, no matter large or small through the sharing of perspective is invaluable, while also being impacted and shaped by the lives of others I can relate to.”

Why do you think a platform like BTBSN is important to the community

“The heart of BTBSN is for the people by the people…literally! The influence of the network and its purpose is a great benefit to the black and brown community, much like any platform who’s purpose is to share, educate, uplift, encourage and inspire our immediate and surrounding communities through relatable content. Being relatable is the majority of the battle to transforming our own lives individually, which then begins to shape our communities in meaningful ways.”

What’s next for your career path?

“Maaaaaan, my next career path is the journey of transitioning from 3 kids to 4 kids in January 2021, making me a homeschooling mama with 4 kids, 5 years old and under! I’m not going to have to time to take a nap…let alone work on any personal or professional projects. I’ll be lucky if I can squeeze in some quiet time with the Lord, read my Bible… #prayforme LOL”
