The Hillman Foundation Awards $250,000 to Neighborhood Allies to Support the Centralized Real Estate Accelerator

Oct 20, 2020

We are proud to elevate The Henry L. Hillman Foundation as our ally, supporter and partner as we work together to improve the quality of life of Pittsburgh residents. This most recent grant will support the Centralized Real Estate Accelerator.

Neighborhood Allies created the Centralized Real Estate Accelerator (The Accelerator ) to empower early stage for-profit and non-profit developers and property owners to achieve their vision by growing technical capacity, increasing financial readiness, and building professional networks. The Accelerator focuses on community-based organizations, resident developers, and small business owners with the goal of creating more opportunities for community ownership in Black neighborhoods, as well as a pipeline of investable projects. The overarching goal of the program is a system-wide change in Pittsburgh’s community development system.

Specifically, the foundation’s support will go towards the Accelerator’s agenda of wealth building through real estate for entrepreneurs of color. The grant has three goals during the proposed one-year grant period:

  • Gain a fuller and more nuanced understanding of the business districts in communities of color throughout Pittsburgh’s rapidly changing real estate market
  • Engage neighborhood entrepreneurs in the benefits and potential pitfalls of real estate ownership
  • Build a pipeline of investable projects that revitalize commercial corridors, improve business sustainability and resiliency, and increase wealth for entrepreneurs of color.

Our work would not be possible without the tremendous support of funders like The Hillman Foundation. Thank you for your continued commitment and support of our mission to support the people, organizations and partnerships committed to creating and maintaining healthy neighborhoods!
