Nearly 200 allies attended the 2nd Annual Healthy Neighborhoods Celebration, allowing local residents and community organizations to come together to celebrate the neighborhoods where they live and work. The event once again took place in the elegant Carnegie Museum of Art and featured live entertainment by Hazelwood’s Center of Life Jazz Band as well as networking with residents, sponsors, and community organizations over hors d’ouevres and cupcakes from The Bakery Society Pittsburgh. Spending time together in this shared space, attendees were given the chance to connect and learn about the collaborative projects occurring in their communities – all working towards creating strong neighborhoods that are livable for all.

The awards ceremony featured six awardees – one for each of our Healthy Neighborhood elements, plus an award for our Ally of the Year. Adapted from David Boehlke’s Healthy Neighborhoods Approach, Neighborhood Allies believes that sustainable, scalable interventions that lead to increased Market ConfidenceQuality of LifeNeighborhood ImageCommunity Ownership, and Equitable Development are the cornerstones of transforming the lives of the greatest number of vulnerable people and in the greatest number of distressed places. Our sixth award, Ally of the Year, is given to a person or organization who acts as a true and active ally to Neighborhood Allies and our partners.

Each award was accompanied by a short video showcasing the awardees’ work and explaining how they are working to make an impact in the every day lives of residents of underserved Pittsburgh neighborhoods. During the program, we also celebrated the 4th cohort of graduates from our Real Estate Co-Powerment Series and heard some student accounts of how the course most helped them.

Congratulations to our 2018 Healthy Neighborhood Awardees!

We want to thank everyone for making our 2nd Annual Healthy Neighborhoods Celebration a success! To our awardees – your dedication to creating healthy neighborhoods and support of community endeavors that have a direct impact on the ground are the reason that we can envision a Pittsburgh livable for all. To our partners – your continuous support means that we can work toward our mission every day. And to our sponsors – we couldn’t carry out this work without you! A special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, PNC Bank!
