Preservation Working Group

Description

Beginning in early 2021, Neighborhood Allies began serving as the convening organization for the affordable housing Preservation Working Group (PWG). The PWG is a dedicated network of policymakers, community stakeholders, and responsible nonprofit and for-profit owners and developers interested in the preservation of existing privately-owned affordable housing over the long-term.

Goal of the Program

1. Identify at-risk existing affordable housing through data analysis and the deep community and market knowledge of working group members;
   
2. Advocate for local, state, and federal policies and programs that will increase affordable housing preservation in the Pittsburgh region, and for new and flexible capital sources; and
3. Activate opportunities for preservation by attracting responsible, qualified buyers, positioning properties for acquisition and recapitalization, and connecting developers to capital and other resources.

What We Provide

Neighborhood Allies serves as the convener and lead organizer of the Preservation Working Group. We serve as a connection point between affordable housing developers, funders, government and elected officials, and other key stakeholders.

Resources

Preserve Affordability Pittsburgh provides flexible loan capital for the acquisition of existing affordable housing. Developers can qualify for up to $2.5 million in financing for the purchase of apartment buildings or scattered sites of 20 or more units in Allegheny County. Click here to learn more and for terms.
