On Thursday, October 24th, Neighborhood Allies hosted its 3rd Annual Healthy Neighborhoods Celebration to honor the people and organizations working hard every day to create healthy, thriving neighborhoods across Pittsburgh.

Nearly 200 partners, allies, and other guests attended the 3rd Annual Healthy Neighborhoods Celebration, where 6 awardees were honored for their outstanding work creating and maintaining healthy neighborhoods across Pittsburgh, the Fall Real Estate Co-Powerment Series Graduates received their certificates, and attendees were given the chance to connect and learn about the collaborative projects occurring in their communities. The event was held at the Carnegie Museum of Art in the Music Hall foyer and included entertainment from Kind of Blue Jazz Band, hors d’voures, networking, and more! Guests were free to grab some swag at our Neighborhood Allies info table or view the full-length awardee videos in the Music Hall prior to programming and after closing.
During the program, we also celebrated the 6th cohort of graduates from the Real Estate Co-Powerment Series. Attendees heard from a new graduate, Paron Bey, about his motivation to enroll in the course and how his new knowledge is already impacting his life. Just recently, he has completed all of his required courses and is preparing to take his real estate license test to become a certified real estate agent!The program also featured remarks from Tamara Cartwright, Neighborhood Allies Program Manager for Social Impact Design, about our Love My Neighbor! resident grant program and its decision making body – the Grassroots Grantmaking Commitee.
Guided by the Healthy Neighborhoods Framework and focusing on asset-based community development that is visible and immediate, the Love My Neighbor! program encourages community leadership and ownership, celebrates neighborhood image, expands networks among residents, and strengthens the capacity of new and existing resident-led initiatives. Because residents of our focus neighborhoods are able to attend for free, the celebration serves as another opportunity for GGC members and Love My Neighbor! grantees to network with nonprofit organizations and learn how to get involved with other grassroots efforts throughout the city.
The awards ceremony featured six awardees – one for each of our Healthy Neighborhood elements, plus an award for our Ally of the Year. Each awardee truly embodied the spirit of our Healthy Neighborhood elements – Market Confidence, Quality of Life, Neighborhood Image, Community Ownership, and Equitable Development. In addition, our Ally of the Year works tirelessly for her community each and every day and represents the true definition of a neighborhood ally.
