Bank On Allegheny County recently added two new accounts that meet the Bank On National Account Standards. With new accounts from Brentwood Bank and Univest Bank, there are now 15 certified accounts from 13 different banks and credit unions available in our area. Brentwood Bank and their new “Everyday Spending” account are available in their branch locations located throughout areas south of Pittsburgh, and it will soon be made available on their website as well. Univest Bank and Trust is growing their presence in the region, with new locations in Cranberry and the East End. Their Value Checking account is available at their locations and online.

Expanding the availability of these safe and affordable bank accounts is an important part of Neighborhood Allies’ mission to move more people into the financial mainstream and up the socio-economic ladder. Account owners are able to avoid any overdraft or non-sufficient fund fees, and more and more of the accounts are now being offered with no monthly maintenance fee. Data shows the growing popularity of Bank On accounts, as 17,119 certified accounts were reported opened in southwestern Pennsylvania in 2022, nearly double the amount of the previous year. As we continue to lead the work of promoting these accounts via our role leading the Bank On Allegheny County Coalition, we continue to welcome conversations with financial institutions interested in offering a Bank On certified account.
