Jazmiere Bates, Fund My Future PGH alum, recently won the $1,000 Fund My Future PGH scholarship to put towards her education at Lincoln University.

Jazmiere has always been a confident young person with a go-getter attitude and stellar work ethic. She began her own small business, Kin of Duncan, at the age of 13 with the help of Catapult Greater Pittsburgh. Jazmiere hand makes pet gear such as bandanas and collars. She even sewed adult and child sized masks during the COVID-19 pandemic!
In a recent interview, Jazmiere shared what it was like being a participant of Fund My Future PGH. She recalls stopping in at the Hill District Federal Credit Union with her mom at the age of 9, watching her make deposits into Jazmiere’s savings account. When she got older, she began adding to her savings with proceeds from her business.
A graduate of Winchester-Thurston high school, Jazmiere is now attending Lincoln University. She plans to major in biochemistry and hopes to go on to become a forensic pathologist. We hope that the $1,000 scholarship from Fund My Future PGH has made an impact!
“Fund My Future PGH has honestly felt like a community…and I’m super excited to be part of the alumni family now! [As an alum], I’ll be able to give back to my community and come back to Pittsburgh and talk to kids who are in Fund My Future PGH….[and] tell them how to manage and keep up with a savings account and tell them about my overall experience.”
