- Client: Kincaid St. Garden
- Neighborhood: Garfield
- Address: Fern Hollow Valley, Frick Park
- Timeline: January – August 2024
The Kincaid Street Community Garden works to address the lack of safe and interactive green space in Garfield. Community members are provided with the resources, tools, and expertise to take meaningful action in eliminating blight and vacancy in their neighborhoods. Having successfully activated their garden space on the northern side of Kincaid Street, the team was ready to envision the potential of their lot on the southern side of the street.
The design process sought to increase the engagement of Garfield neighbors, foster community ownership through community engaged design workshops, create a master plan for the southern garden lot that compliments the northern lot, and design a free-standing structure to serve as community bulletin board, shelter, and free pantry.
To meet these goals, the SID team incorporated a cadence of working group meetings into the flow of engagement events and design meetings to have an open space for interested garden volunteers and neighbors to get involved with design decisions as they are made.
