Public Health 3.0 is an upgrade in public health practice to a modern version that emphasizes cross-sectorial environmental, policy, and systems-level actions that directly affect the social determinants of health.
On Monday, April 4, Pennsylvania Health Secretary, Dr. Karen Murphy and U.S. Assistant Secretary for Health Karen DeSalvo participated in the first of 5 regional meetings being held across the country, which are aimed at building innovative partnerships to improve health care for all.
Hosted and facilitated by Dr. Karen Hacker, Director, Allegheny County Department of Public Health, Pittsburgh was the first city to host the event, which spotlighted ways local public health advocates are working across sectors to build partnerships with a
common goal of improving the health of communities. The event, was held at Hosanna House, took place on the first day of National Public Health Week.
State and local public health officials and representatives from the business, nonprofit, environment, housing, local government and urban planning communities, including our very own Presley Gillespie, contributed to the conversation which focused on five themes that advance the Public Health 3.0
concepts:
- Enhanced leadership and workforce
- Cross-sector partnerships
- Accreditation and infrastructure
- Data and analytics
- Funding
Presley served on the Live Well Allegheny panel,
speaking to looking toward the future of our neighborhoods and what integrated and collaborative roles we and our partners can play.
